A former movement from a basset horn divertimento,

part of the lighter side of the composer’s catalogue...

This piece comes from a ragtag collection of light music written for basset horn trio that was not even published in the composer’s lifetime. The twenty-five assorted pieces were most likely written for private functions or even to act as background music (!) to dinner, possibly at Masonic lodge meetings. (Mozart was himself a Mason, as were a number of his reed-playing contemporaries.)

After the composer’s death, the pieces were sorted into five divertimenti for the original instruments, and also transcribed for piano.

As with other arrangements for flexible ensemble, parts are available for groups commonly found in educational circles: flute ensemble, sax ensemble, clarinet ensemble, mixed woodwind group and so on. There is even a part for horn in F, just in case a wind quintet needs an extra piece in its repertoire...with one player ducking out, of course. Perhaps they could conduct.
